Cartier Women's Initiative Awards
Hi Everyone, Whilst it might be a bit late for you to submit a comprehensive entry for this year's competition, here is a wonderful competition you might like to diarize for next year. It is the Cartier Women's Initiative Awards and 2011 entries are due March 15.
Here are some criteria details:
"The project to be considered for the Cartier Women's Initiative Awards must be an original for-profit business creation in the initial phase (1-3 years old) led by a woman.
- The “for-profit” requirement: the business submitted for the Award must be designed to generate revenues. We do not accept non-profit project proposals.
- The “originality” requirement: we want your project to be a new concept, conceived and imagined by the founder and her team and not a copy or subsidiary of an existing business.
- The “initial phase” requirement: the project you submit should be in the first stages of its development with one year of operations and sales to account for but no older than 3-4 years. The ‘age’ of the company will not be measured solely on the basis of the date of incorporation. The development and size of the company will also be taken into account.
- The main leadership position must be filled by a woman. A good command of English is required (both verbal and written) to take full advantage of the benefits the Award has to offer.
- All entrants must be aged 18 or the age of legal majority in their respective countries or states of citizenship, whichever is older, on the day of the application deadline of March 15, 2011."
Here are the details about how to apply.
Here you can read about the 2010 Laureates. The awards ceremony for 2011 will be held in France in October. I look forward to reading about this year's winners! Andrea

Have You Ever Worked Abroad? Would You Like 3 Free Coaching Sessions & A Free Book?
Hi Everyone, Elizabeth Kruempelmann of Global Citizen Coaching is updating the work abroad section of her 2004 book The Global Citizen: A Guide to Creating an International Life and Career (affiliate link) and she is looking for your story of working abroad.
If you have ever worked abroad (as an employee or as a freelancer), or if you have ever taken part in a work-exchange program, internship or volunteer program abroad, Elizabeth would love to hear from you (about what obstacles you faced, how you overcame them and what tips you could offer others).
Elizabeth says your story does not need to be long: 50 - 300 words is great. She is just looking for words of wisdom for others who aspire to work abroad.
In return, for each story included in her updated book, Elizabeth is willing to offer three free coaching sessions (on the subject of your choice) plus a copy of her updated book! That's pretty impressive as an incentive for writing only 50 - 300 words - so get your thinking caps on and give it a go!
Deadline for submissions to Elizabeth is next Monday, 24 May. The stories selected for inclusion will be announced by Elizabeth (to her network) on 31 May.
Thanks and good luck! Andrea

2009 Expat Youth Scholarship Winners
Hi Everyone, You may recall that one of our Expat Women Silver Sponsors, Clements International, was running a fantastic scholarship competition for expat youth. Well, for those who are curious, recently they announced the winners (my apologies for not posting this earlier)...
"Clements International's 2009 Expat Youth Scholarship awarded $10,000 to students age 12-18 of any nationality who have spent at least two years living outside their home country. The theme, Life in a Flying House, is inspired by the idea that students who spend their childhoods moving between different countries and cultures acquire unique life experiences.
The scholarship contest asked expat students to share their experiences of living in a foreign country through an essay (500 words or more) and creative media (photographs, illustrations, paintings, or video). Three winners in each of two age categories (12-15 and 16-18) were selected by a panel of judges from the expatriate community.
Scholarship Winners:
Age 12-15
First Place ($3,000): Julia Goldsby, 12, American Expat in Germany
Second Place ($1,500): Kate Telma, 14, American Expat in Kazakhstan
Third Place ($500): Athena Pierquet, 15, American Expat in France
Age 16-18
First Place ($3,000): Yichen Zhang, 18, Chinese Expat in the U.S.
Second Place ($1,500): Bethany Turley, 17, American Expat in Belgium
Third Place ($500): Natalia Aponte, 18, Peruvian Expat in the U.S.
To view the winning entries and honorable mentions, along with other information about the scholarship, visit here. Download the official (September) press release here.
Since 1947, Clements International has specialized in the insurance needs of expatriates and their families. Visit clements.com for more information."
Congratulations to all of the winners this year!
