'I Am Not A Tourist' Fair in Madrid - 6 May 2011

Hi Everyone, If you are an expat in Spain (or planning to be soon), don't miss the upcoming “i am not a tourist” Madrid on Friday, 6 May.

Here are some words from our friends at Expatica (the organizers):

“i am not a tourist” 2011
This year, our Fair will be an interactive extravaganza of experts and companies specialising in expatriate life, workshops, networking and entertainment.

We’ve invited over 40 exhibitors to offer you a helping hand
Have a chat with a recruitment agent, get a word of advice on health insurance or banking, compare international schools and universities, join a group/club or just take the chance to mix with like-minded internationals.

Get invaluable information about surviving abroad
Attend seminars on landing that perfect job, banking, or setting up a business, and enjoy great entertainment and networking opportunities. The programme includes a yoga workshop and wine tasting as well as on-stage performances and even a SpeedDate. And don't hesitate to bring your family along; we have set aside a whole room just for them!

'I Am Not A Tourist' 2010 Expat Fairs in Madrid, Brussels and Amsterdam

Hi Everyone, If you are an expat (or soon-to-be-expat) in Spain, Belgium or the Netherlands, I encourage you to check out Expatica's 'I Am Not A Tourist' Fairs coming up this year...

The first will be in Brussels, Belgium, on Sunday 6 June at the Espace53 (Autoworld). Free tickets here.

Next, they are running their very first Madrid-based Fair on Saturday 12 June at the Hilton Madrid Airport Hotel. Free tickets here.

Then on Sunday 10 October, they will run their 7th annual 'I Am Not A Tourist' Fair in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, at the Beurs van Berlage. (I went last year and it was lots of fun!) Free tickets will be available in a month or so.

Last but not least, they are running a second Fair in Brussels, Belgium, same venue as in June, on Sunday 17 October. Free tickets.

Expatica, who now cover eight countries (the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, France, the UK, Germany, Switzerland and Luxembourg) on their website - with a ninth on the way soon - know a lot about what it is like to be an expat, so if you are in (or moving to) any of their Fair locations, mark your diaries and go along to see what they have gathered for you!

Horrible Crime In An Expat Gated Community in Spain

Hi Everyone, I just read a very disturbing story in the Telegraph UK entitled Expat Journey To The Heart Of Darkness.

The sub-title read: "The rape and murder of a child by another child in an expat gated community in Spain forced questions on neighbours that they never wanted to ask themselves."

It is about a horrible crime committed in 2004 - and the recent release of the perpetrator. The author gives her take on the effect of that crime both on her and on her community.

It is a very sad story which reiterates how 'the good life' does not always mean 'the safer life'.

British Expats In, Or Moving To, Spain?

Hello Everyone, Becky Maynard, an Assistant Director at Studio Lambert, is working on a new documentary series for ITV about British expats moving to and/or living in Spain and is looking for people in the following scenarios:

(a) A family on the verge of making a decision to move to Spain, or looking at properties with a view to buy in the next month or two;

(b) British expats already living the dream in Spain;

(c) Someone whose Spanish experience is turning into a nightmare;

(d) People who are considering giving up the Spanish dream entirely.

If you meet any of the above criteria, and are willing to meet Becky in September, with a view to filming in October, please urgently contact Becky here. Thanks.
